If you want to change your chandelier, then first thing you have to do is to make sure that the power is off. Install the electrical box that must have come with your new chandelier. Place the bracket and position it in such a way that it is perpendicular to joists, and after that, rotate the expansion bar. Place the smaller bracket up and position it above the bar.

Place the box into the ceiling and fasten the bolts. Then wire the connections. Patch up the hole with wood which you had cut out. Place it inside the hole and put it in place using glue. Let the glue dry and then apply paint to the ceiling if necessary. This will be done to cover any mess which may have been left there. You can use spackle for a smaller patch.
